Partnering with local creatives, Historic Oakland Foundation has launched a new initiative to interpret the iconic landmark’s lauded history through art. The Arts at Oakland program debuts on Saturday, May 2 with Callosum Collective's ROAMtransmissions. Together, Oakland and ROAMtransmissions will produce The Cryptophonic Tour, an interactive installation featuring the works of more than a dozen sound, multimedia and performance artists.
Using Oakland Cemetery’s archives and audio collected on the cemetery grounds as source material, ROAMtransmissions’ artists will present immersive audio landscapes that recount the fascinating backstories of 12 sites at Oakland that were instrumental in shaping Atlanta’s earliest days as a musical city.
Participating artists include: Paige Adair, Madeline Adams, Shorty Bedford, Tera Buerkle, Chris Childs, Chris Devoe, Chelsea Dunn, Dust-to-Digital Sound System, Jane Garver, Meta Gary, Jesse Karlsberg, Meredith Kooi, Michika McClinton, Ryan Peoples, Grace Thornton, and Chris White.
