In UnSung Heroes, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus pays tribute to LGBT composers, poets, and artists who have shown courage in their artistic output: people who were ahead of their time, artistically and personally, and people who have left or are leaving lasting impressions on what will be LGBT history.
Featuring performances by singer-songwriter Matt Alber, the program will be rounded out by selections of all eras, genres, and sources, connected thematically through powerful texts. Musical theater highlights include Stephen Sondheim‘s “Sunday” from Sunday in the Park with George and Jerry Herman‘s “I Am What I Am” from La Cage aux Folles. From works by composers Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber to a setting of Walt Whitman‘s poetry and a song by Melissa Etheridge, (Un)Sung Heroes is a journey of pride as we celebrate the heroes who have come before us.
