I am humbled and honored that I was voted in for a chance to participate in the Men of David Competition and to once again work to benefit the incredible AID Atlanta.
10 of us were voted by you to be finalists in this competition. Those 10 were selected and agreed to do this all for different reasons but with the common goal of volunteering for charity. I'm doing this because I love building bridges in a community through both my art and charity work. That's what I do. That's who I am.
Im not exactly sure what I have to or will be doing to raise money at the event on Saturday, but it's definitely out of my comfort zone. I just don't see myself like that and definitely not in the context of being in a contest where I'm not hiding behind a cape or mask. Put me in a character and I'm gravy. I try every day to break down my own walls as well as others. In doing so and agreeing to be a part of this is just as much a wall breaker for me personally as it is in the end 100% only about AID Atlanta.
But, in the end it's important to remember that we throw ourselves out there however we can for what we believe in. I believe that HIV/AIDS is still very much a problem that has yet to be fixed and too many people take it for granted by not talking about it as much now as they should be. There is no cure yet and it affects everyone regardless of race/gender/sexuality. If I can help just a little bit for those affected then this journey is worth it.
The live finale is this Saturday at Jungle, promising to be a night of fun and exciting performances with all the finalists hosted by Ruby Redd with performances by Lady Bunny and music by DJ David Knapp. Dancing, Silent Auction and dollar bills. The finalist who brings in the most $$ for AID Atlanta will be named the winner!
For those wishing to pre-donate or cannot attend this fun evening of charity, online donations for AID Atlanta can be made via my indiegogo campaign. Those funds go directly into the bank account of AID Atlanta when it ends right before the big night via First Giving. Even just $1 dollar donations add up. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/men-of-david-fundraising-contest-for-the-benefit-of-aid-atlanta-charity/x/7124608#home
