Georgia Equality, WonderRoot, Charis Books & More, TILTT and JustUsATL invite you to participate in Deconstructing Binaries, a community-based public art project that will explore and challenge binary representations of gender identity on public restroom signage. On Wednesday, April, 23rd at 7:30pm at Charis Books (1189 Euclid Ave. NE Atlanta, GA 30307), we will host an open conversation dedicated to better understanding the multiplicity of gender identities and how people with various identities experience and use public bathrooms. Encouraged by our understanding that the arts are a transcendent language for communication and social change, among those present will be five professional visual artists. Each artist will be tasked with absorbing the thoughts and opinions of community members and creating restroom signage that supports a diversity of gender identities. Upon completion, these signs will be distributed throughout Atlanta with the intent of raising awareness that gender inclusivity is a form of social justice for all.
We'd love to include your voice in this conversation. This event is free and open to all. A moderator will facilitate dialogue to ensure that the conversation is kept supportive and productive.
